Turtle Watch volunteer meeting March 18 in G.S.

Share the Beach is gearing up for the sea turtle nesting season that begins in May, and it’s time for volunteers to start making plans. The annual information meeting for Baldwin County volunteers will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 18 at the Erie Meyer Civic Center (1930 West 2nd St.) in Gulf Shores. Visit joinACF.org for more info. Returning volunteers and anyone interested in becoming a new volunteer should plan to attend.
Share The Beach sponsorships are also available. Info: joinacf.org or email sjohnson@joinACF. org.
The objectives of the Alabama Coastal Foundation’s Share the Beach program are to mitigate human-related impacts to sea turtles, especially the effects of artificial light pollution, monitor nests and hatchlings and promote the conservation of sea turtles through public outreach and education.
Sea turtle monitoring in Alabama started in 2003 and two years later the Friends of the Bon Secour Wildlife Refuge founded Share the Beach, an all volunteer program.
Share the Beach volunteers patrol the beach, educate the public and school groups, conduct late-night nest observations, and assist with supply and equipment preparations.
