Willie Nelson on May 16 first of five shows in 10 days at Wharf
Tickets start at $32 (plus tax) and are currently on sale at Ticketmaster or the Wharf Box Office for the Willie Nelson Family Band concert at 7:30 p.m. at The Wharf Amphitheater on May 16. Lilly Meola will open.
Four other shows are scheduled at the Wharf over Memorial Weekend.
Nelson’s band will include sons Lukas and Micah Nelson, and longtime harmonica player Mickey Raphael.
Fans should take the over on whether he will open his set with “Whiskey River” and that his songlist will also include “On The Road Again,” “Mammas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys,” Roll Me Up and Smoke Me When I Die,” “Always on My Mind,” “Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain,” and his legendary composition “Crazy”.
Going into his seventh decade of music relavance, the 93-year-old country singer-songwriter continues to tour and write new music. He has a new album, “Dream Chaser,” scheduled for release in May, and his 2025 album, “Oh What a Beautiful World,” paid homage to the songwriting of Rodney Crowell and underscores Nelson’s gift as a song stylist.
Nelson had already recorded 57 albums when he released the Grammy-nominated double album, “Willie Nelson – Country Music,” produced by T. Bone Burnett, in 2010. That album captured the rustic sound, stripped-down arrangements and traditional instrumentation Nelson first visited on his classic 1978 album “Stardust.”
His 2026 Outlaw Music Festival Tour kicks off in Irving, TX on July 3 with a condensed 12-city run supported by rotating support acts that include Bob Dylan, Wilco, and Sheryl Crow.
Reviews of his earlier shows on this tour note that while the Nonagenarian shows his age, his ability to connect with the audience remains, “delivering surprising vigor and a delicate grace his performances.”
The 10,000 Wharf Amphitheater has been an economic juggernaut for the Wharf and the City of Orange Beach since it opened on May 27, 2006.
