Alice would have loved Mad Hatters’ Wonderland Event

Crazy hats, beautiful hats,–all kinds of hats showed up at the Foley Woman’s Club’s annual Mad Hatters’ event on March 8, at the Foley Civic Center. With a theme of Alice’s Wonderland, guests wore creative costumes and hats as they mingled among the beautifully decorated tables of various hat designs done by member Helen Lambard. The stage was lit with streaming purple lights highlighting large flowers and glowing trees.
The Club president, Chris Anglin, presented $5,000 to the Miracle League of Coastal Alabama team which is raising funds for a handicapped ball field in Summerdale.
The famous hat parade led by none other than an authenic Queen of Hearts, Tanya Blair, and joined by the many hat wearers snaked thru the tables to the audience’s delight. Prizes were awarded for the best theme hat which was won by Eileen Gilding with honorable mention going to Kayla Barrett. Winner of the craziest hat was Gigi Baroco with Linda Lambert receiving honorable mention. The most glamorous hat category was won by Jordan Bodenhammer. Kelly Barrett’s Mad Hatters hat received special mention for being the best home-made hat.
Entertainment was provided by “Granny” Sharon Goodwin, “Patsy Cline” Kay McVay and Christina Christian, who sang the official “Miracle League” theme song written by she and her husband. Many raffle and silent auction items provided by merchants and member donations were won by attendees. The $500 pot of gold winner was Georgia Carpenter. Fashions from Dillards, Chico’s and Beach House Boutique were modeled by Club members .
A delicious seated lunch provided by L.A. barbeque catering was served by Club members wearing specially designed aprons.
Event Coordinator, Kelly Barrett and her committee chairs of Sheila Morgan, Helen Lambard, Gloria Welytok, Sue Rich, Sharon Penton, Linda Ford, Chris Anglin, and Sylvia Womack, assisted by Club members helped make “Alice’s Wonderland” a glowing success.
The members of the Foley Woman’s Club thank all of the sponsors and donors for their help. Foley Woman’s Club members work diligently to make the event possible—giving back to the community their primary goal. All proceeds from the event are donated to groups that provide services to women and children in Baldwin County. We look forward to another Mad Hatters’ event in 2019!
