Foley Senior Center expands classes & events to serve growing clientele

Foley’s Senior Center is more than 20 years old, and is offering more opportunities than ever for the 50-plus age residents of South Baldwin County.
Thanks to the support of the City of Foley, the Senior Center has a very reasonable membership fee of just $15 per year and offers a wide range of classes and day trips for small fees, as well as complimentary on-site opportunities for area residents who want to remain active and involved as they enjoy retirement years.
“We have a variety of exercise activities, ranging from chair yoga to Zumba, that happen at the same time every week so people can count on getting their workouts in,” said Nancy McMeekin, a new employee of the Center. “There’s Ballroom Dance class and Line Dance class, too, and then a wide range of games whose participants are staying sharp and enjoying the friendships forged there. Our calendar has something for just about everyone!”
On the first and third Saturday nights, the Center hosts a dance with Exit 105, a live, four-piece band playing a wide range of musical genres for dancers to enjoy. The next dance is April 15.
“Our Senior Center is tucked away in downtown Foley at the corner of E. Rose Avenue and N. Cypress Street,” McMeekin said. “You don’t even know it’s there if you don’t know to go look for it. But our fun never stops and we hope more people will come check us out!” The Foley Senior Center is open Monday – Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and first and third Saturdays at 6 p.m. for the dance at 304 E. Rose Ave., Foley. For more information, call (251) 943-1877
