Magnolia Springs volunteer firefighters contain 60 acre fire

The third weekend in October was a busy one for Magnolia Springs firefighters. Besides hosting the 4th Annual Magnolia Springs Firefighter Festival, the hamlet’s volunteer fire dept., with help from Bon Secour VFD and Alabama Forestry Commission spent hours containing a 60 acre wildfire on Bay Road West. The fire started on Oc. 18 was contained on Oct. 22. The fire started when a resident defied a no burn ban and set a fire on their property, according to MFD Chief Kaylan Driskell. The ban will be enforced until Oct. 31.
