Pleasure Island Optimist Club offering charter memberships

By Sally McKinney
There is always something good going on in Orange Beach and Gulf Shores, great dining, fun on the beach and special events. Recently something new has come to the area, the Pleasure Island Optimist Club.
Dedicated to making a more optimistic future for kids, Optimist Clubs provide a variety of programs and projects for children, such as scholarships, essay and oratorical contests, golf tournaments and fishing rodeos.
Started as a project of the local Optimist clubs in Foley and Lillian, the group now has enough members signed up to become official. Induction procedures were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21 at Barefoot Island Grill on Canal Road in Orange Beach. Officers were elected at the Monday, September 16 meeting at 6 p.m. at the same location. And then it’s onward and upward for the men and women of the club. Contact Nicole Smith, 251-948-1228 or nicole@nicolesmith.com, for more info about the group.
