Saturday concerts & Illuminating Autism at Pirates Cove

Live music on the main building porch has returned to Josephine’s gift to the world with peformances by bands led by Pirates Cove riff-raffs Kelly Poole & The Swingset on May 21 and Andy MacDonald and the Flying Cobras on May 28. Mucic will continue beginning around 3 p.m. on Saturday afternoons through the tourist season.
Known for bushwackers, hamburgers and an affinity for canines of all shapes and sizes, the Cove is also well into plans for its annual Illuminating Autism FUNraiser July 22-24. Tickets are already on sale for twin drawdowns for a brand new jeep to raise funds for the local nonprofit specializing in language development and social behavior therapy for school-age children. The event offers food, fun and live music on the sandy shores of the laid-back landmark. Jeep tickets are $100 each and include admission each day. For more info, to buy drawdown tickets or to volunteer, go to highhopes4autism.org or call (251) 986-7007.
Located at the intersection of Robert’s Bayou and Arnica Bay and directly north of Bearpoint Marina in Orange Beach, Pirates Cove has been operated by three generations of Muellers and longtime staff led by Eileen Mueller and her sons Paul and Karl.
Opened as a Civilian Conservation Corps work camp during the Great Depression, the bistro was the camp general store when built in 1935. The Muellers celebrate the bistro’s 65th anniversary this year.
