75 acts to play downtown Mobile’s SouthSounds Fest April 7-9

The first act will start at 6 p.m on Friday, April 7, and shows will run late into the night on Sunday, April 9. In between, bands will play 75-plus shows in 10 different venues at various downtown venues during SouthSounds Music & Arts Festival, an event started in 2011 to showcase the best emerging and independent Southern music and art.
SouthSounds operates as a non-profit enterprise while exposing South Alabama to musical artists spanning an array of musical genres, including Americana, indie, country, bluegrass, rock, alternative, metal, soul, funk, blues, R&B and hip-hop. Last year’s festd featured bands from ) nine different southern states.
Bands already booked include 10th Letter, Abe Partridge, Alfred Banks, All Them Witches, Alvin King & The Kazoola Jazz Band, Baak Gwai, Beamin & Timmy, Big Freedia, Blair Crimmins & The Hookers, Deception Show, Dirty Dozen Brass Band (pictured), DJ Charles, Doc Holiday, Elizabeth Colman, Eric Erdman, Eterniti Everlasting, Humming House, Jamell Richardson, Jimmy Lumpkin & The Revival, JoJo’s Slim Wednesday (featuring JoJo Hermann), Jukebox Brass Band, Marco Pave, Mr. 88, Multi & Funk Band, Ranch Ghost, Ras Apollo Yah Son, Royal Teeth, Sexy Dex & The Fresh, Sweet Crude, Tyler Kinchen & The Right Pieces, The Difference Machine, The Marcus King Band, Underhill Family Orchestra and Unicorn Bounty Hunters.
In addition to the Big Stage at Cathedral Square, bands will play at (mostly) downtown Mobile clubs Alchemy Tavern, OK Bicycle Shop, The Blind Mule, Brickyard, Callaghan’s Irish Social Club, Kazoola Eatery & Entertainment, Levelz Bar & Lounge, The Merry Widow, Moe’s Original BBQ, O’Daly’s Irish Pub, Soul Kitchen, The Listening Room and The Steeple.
Ticket prices for the three-day event are $25 per wristband until April 1 and then go up to $30. VIP ticket prices, which include access to the VIP area, special viewing spaces, plus food from local restaurants, Anheuser-Busch brand beer, a festival t-shirt and free trolley rides are $75 each or two for $120.
New to the fest this year are a chalk-art display, and an arts market featuring some of the South’s most exciting visual artists.
