Alabama Food Bank’s $3.6M CoronaVirus Relief grant benefits Baldwin pantries

Alabama Food Bank has received a $3.6 Million grant from the Alabama CoronaVirus Relief Fund known as the Alabama Feeding Initiative. The funds will be used to support the Feeding America food banks in Alabama, including Baldwin County, as they respond to the unprecedented COVID-19 crisis.
“Alabama is a state where neighbors help neighbors, even in the most difficult times,” Governor Kay Ivey said. “
The Coronavirus pandemic presented significant challenges around the world, as well as here at home in our own state. Food banks in communities across Alabama have been a lifeline for those in need, and I am proud to be able to put these funds toward the Initiative. I remain committed to getting these CARES Act funds into the hands of those who need it.”
The Alabama Food Bank’s eight members collectively distributed 73.5M lbs of food in FY2020 through their 1,573 partner food pantries.
Besides obtaining more food and funds, the AFN creating partnerships to help alleviate hunger in Alabama. The network includes emergency food pantries, pantrys and soup kitchens. Pictured: Volunteers help at AFN partner, The Christian Service Center.
