Bon Secour’s Morgan’s Chapel 20th anniversary Sept. 28-29
This Side of 49 & The Chastings play; free cook-out part of festivities

Morgan’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Bon Secour will celebrate its 20th Anniversary with a Homecoming Weekend September 28-29. All events are free and all are invited to enjoy the festivities. The church is located on County Road 10 just past the Bon Secour Post Office and across the road from Swift School.
Saturday afternoon Sept. 28, there will be a free cookout on the church grounds followed by a free concert by local bands This Side of 49 at 3:30 p.m. and The Chestangs at 5 p.m.
This Side of 49 was formed by twin brothers Josh and Jarred Higginbotham, natives of the Bon Secour community who have been singing and playing music since childhood. They perform original songs as well as lots of old hymns and gospel favorites and perform in many local venues.
The Chestangs (pictured) are a well-known family band from McIntosh, who have entertained audiences throughout the southeast singing gospel music with a traditional bluegrass sound. Besides performing many familiar oldtime gospel songs, the band features original compostions by band members Spanky Chestang and Butch Long. The Chestangs are members of the Bluegrass Gospel Association and have performed at the Bluegrass Gospel Showcase in Nashville for the past nine years.
On Sunday, September 29 at 9:30 a.m., morning worship in the Chapel will be a musical extravaganza, with This Side of 49, the combined choirs of Orange Beach United Methodist and Morgan’s Chapel choirs and other special guests performing. The service will be followed by Dinner on the Grounds (or in the fellowship hall in case of rain!). Everyone is warmly welcomed.
