Come Visit Ocean Camp At The Wharf

Come visit Ocean Camp at The Wharf in Orange Beach, AL as it hosts a full calendar of events through the “So Much Summer. Fun.Every.Day!’ program. Plus, discover the 8 weeks of camp offerings that bring science and environmental stewardship to life! Ocean Camp offers children the opportunity to explore the ocean and learn new knowledge in an engaging and fun environment. “Ocean Camp hosted its first camp during the summer of 2010, when the BP Oil Spill made it even more clear to us all just how precious the Gulf of Mexico is. Camp programs that first summer were hosted at Bodenhamer Recreation Center, where we studied the importance and beauty of the ocean,” stated Belinda Ringpfeil, Ocean Camp Director. She continued, “The camp has grown tremendously and we are so pleased to have our facility at The Wharf to further spread a greater love for the ocean & inspire stewardship. It’s proven that time outdoors increases children’s overall well being & Ocean Camp offers impactful experiences.” Each summer over the next 7 years, Ocean Camp has leased facilities for camp in Gulf Shores, Orange Beach and Fairhope until summer of 2017 when Event Coordinator, Brad Nicks, assisted with the first Marine Center at The Wharf, 4776 Main Street L210. We are so appreciative to The Wharf, plus volunteers and business contributions to fill the marine center with a classroom, aquariums, American Alligator habitat, and media room. Camp topics this summer include Animal Explorers June 5-8 for ages 5-8! This a perfect introduction to the marine animal world, where they learn about the animal kingdom taxonomy and love on a variety of their favorites. We have 2 Shark Explorers camps this year, July 10-13 for ages 5-12, where shark basics are offered; species, anatomy, and behaviors are covered. Shark Scientists, ages 7-12, are introduced to research projects, tagging and other scientists results, during June 26-29. Also, Lego Camp is offered 2 times this summer with Brian Franch, Engineering Instructor at GSHS, leading the classes.
