Council candidates Corcoran, Sinak debate Aug. 16

Kevin Corcoran and Gary Sinak, the two candidates running for Carolyn Doughty’s place 2 on Gulf Shores City Council, will debate at 6 p.m. on Aug. 16 at the Gulf Shores Cultural Center Auditorium, located at 19470 Oak Rd. (West County Rd. 6) in Gulf Shores. The debate is sponsored by the Coastal Alabama Chamber of Commerce Civic & Governmental Affairs Council. Pollng will be held on Aug. 23 at the Erie H. Meyer Civic Center from 7 a.m. ‘til 7 p.m.
Gulf Shores Mayor Robert Craft, Councilman Garris, Councilman Harris, Councilman Dyken and Councilman Jones, as the only candidates to qualify for office of City Council for their respective places, are deemed re-elected to the City Council for the 2016 – 2020 term without opposition.
Also deemed re-elected as the only candidates to qualify for the positions are Orange Beach Mayor Tony Kennon and council members Annette Mitchell, Jeff Boyd, Jerry Johnson, Jeff Silvers and Joni Blalock.
Magnolia Springs voters will asked to choose between Bob Holk and Jim Gaines in the mayor’s race and between Donna Esslinger and Harry Dwyer for place 2 on City Council. Dotty Johnson, Marley Gardner, Nick Shields and Ben Dykema are unopposed.
Rick Blackwell and Frances Holk-Jones, contesting the place 4 council seat, are the only two candidates on the Aug. 23 ballet in Foley.
As usual, every race in Fairhope is contested. Karrin Wilson is running against incumbent mayor Tim Kant. Incumbent Jack Burrell faces Meredith Smith for place 2, Incumbent Rich Mueller squares off against Jay Robinson for place 3, Diana Brewer is being challenged by Jimmy Conyers and Murray Lawrence, and incumbant Kevin Boone faces Gary Gover for place 5, and Phil Nix faces Robert Brown for the place 4 council seat
