Davis Corley wins 3rd Songwriters Shootout at The Hot Spot

Davis Corley wins 3rd Songwriters Shootout at The Hot Spot

After five preliminary rounds featuring 50 writers, the third annual Gulf Coast Songwriter Shootout came to a conclusion on Oct. 24, with Davis Corley declared the winner over runner-up Nick Nace. Both writers are based in Nashville.
Corley’s first place prize package is valued at $10,000 and includes $3,000 from The Hot Spot Music & Grub at The Wharf (the event host), a new guitar and a fully produced demo CD. The event was produced by Nick Biebricher, owner of Sandy Roots Productions and local songwriter/entertainer Melissa Joiner.
Anthony Crawford, Travis Meadows and Lynn Langham served as this year’s judges, who performed at a special Celebrity Songwriter Round the evening before the final round.
Corley has been recognized in the media as one of the most promising new writers emerging in the Nashville songwriting scene. His Folk and Americana background has led him to a fresh and unique stylistic approach to his writing. His raw, emotional vocal delivery and stirring melodic and lyrical content have prompted comparison to Steve Earle and Jason Isbell. A member of the NSAI Nashville chapter, Davis is a regular performer at the various staples of Nashville’s songwriting scene, including the Bluebird Cafe, the Commodore Grill, Daisy Dukes, Douglas Corner and the Millennium Maxwell House. In addition to his professional songwriting pursuits, Davis is the frontman of Knoxville-based Alt. Country outfit, Davis Corley and the 27s.
Nashville based songwriter Nace was born in the wilds of Canada. After moving to NYC, he was part of the acclaimed folk duo A Brief View of the Hudson for over a decade. The band recorded two albums, toured Europe and composed the soundtrack for Tell Your Friends: The Concert Film, which premiered at SXSW. Nace studied songwriting with Steve Earle and last year made the Nashville Songwriters Association Ones To Watch list. He recently returned from a two week tour of Ireland in support of his new EP Avenue A & Heartbreak.
