Flotilla 32 Pays Tribute To John Wayne Kindred
U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 32 recently honored John Wayne Kindred for his outstanding service to community and his 27 years of service with the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. John retired from the Department of Defense Federal service in 1991 and joined the US Coast Guard Auxiliary in 1992 in Annapolis. John and his late wife Charolette moved to Gulf Shores in 1995 and joined the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Sailboat Bay Flotilla 32 (now Foley Flotilla). Using his experience as an auditor in the U.S. Navy, John completed numerous audits on behalf of flotillas along the Gulf Coast. He became the Foley Flotilla Commander in 1997. In 2001, the U.S. Coast Guard requested that John conduct an audit on their Non-Appropriated Fund Accounts. John and his team of Auxiliarists went to Hawaii on four separate occasions. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, John conducted audits of the removal of debris from the coastal counties of Alabama and Mississippi. In 2013 under John’s leadership as Flotilla Commander, the flotilla was recognized by Boat U.S as the best flotilla in the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. John has been the Flotilla Commander for nine years. Flotilla 32 meets at American Legion Post 44 (6791 Hwy. 59) on the third Thursday of each month at 11 a.m. More info: 251-533-5593, or Mike Waterfield at 808-561-5358, or John Kindred 251-284-3823.
