Pleasure Island Optimist Club elects its first officers

The Pleasure Island Optimist Club recently held election of officers. Dedicated to making a more optimistic future for kids, Optimist Clubs provide a variety of programs and projects for children, such as scholarships, essay and oratorical contests as well as golf tournaments and fishing rodeos.
The club plans to rotate lunch and evening hour meetings in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month and welcomes anyone interested in volunteering and helping improve the community.
“We are just starting out, but we already have big plans in the works, and our number one priority will be helping the children of this community where there are unmet needs,” Club President Nicole Smith said.
Optimist International is one of the world’s largest service club organizations with over 80,000 adult and youth members in almost 3,000 clubs in the United States, Canada, the Caribbean and Mexico and throughout the world. Carrying the motto “Bringing Out the Best in Youth, in our Communities, and in Ourselves,” Optimists conduct positive service projects that reach more than six million young people each year.
