Songwriters Series returns to The Point Aug. 16
Meadows, Norsworthy, Killough, Branch & Parker will play

The 5th installment in the Sandy Roots Songwriters Series will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 16 at the Point Restaurant (14340 Innerarity Point Rd.) on Innerarity Point beginning at 6 p.m. Songwriters Travis Meadows, Derek Norsworthy, Rock Killough, Nick Branch and Chad Parker will play original songs in an in-the-round setting. A longtime possible-probable at The Flora-Bama, the beloved Killough (pictured) has songs on platinum albums by Hank, Jr. and Sammy Kershaw. Other artists who have recorded his songs are include Johnny Rodriguez (top 10 single), Brenda Lee (top 20 single), Jerry Jeff Walker, Jeannie Seeley, Mickey Newbury, Carole King, Waylon, Jeannie Pruett, Marty Raybon and Randy Travis.
He and his friend and mentor, Hank Cochran, opened shows for Willie Nelson’s summer and fall tour of 1980. Around that time he appeared on the first songwriter’s special on Austin City Limits. with Floyd Tillman, Sonny Throckmorton, Cochran, Red Lane, Willie and Whitey Shafer.
Meadows’ tunes have been recorded by Dierks Bentley, Eric Church, Jake Owen, Blackberry Smoke, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Hank Williams Jr., Wynonna Judd and Randy Houser.
Between the death of his brother, divorce of his parents and a battle with cancer, the Jackson, Mississippi native was exposed to nothing but pain before he even learned to shave.
Raised by his grandparents and the nightlife of the local blues bars, Meadows abused drugs and alcohol for most of his adult life. Even after he became a touring preacher, his addictions steered the wheel all the way to Nashville, Tennessee where he attended rehabilitation multiple times before gaining traction in country music. “I’m a riser, I’m a get up off the ground, don’t run and hider,” he sings.
