State sends medical team to South Baldwin Hospital

Alabama State Health Officer Dr. Scott Harris has sent a team from the National Disaster Medical System at the Department of Health and Human Services to South Baldwin Regional Medical Center in Foley to help the hospital care for an influx of
COVID-19 patients.
SBRMC was treating 54 COVID-19 patients, 85 percent of whom are unvaccinated, and the NDMS support will relieve the pressure on medical staff who work in the facility, according to hospital spokeswoman Taylor Lewis.
The NDMS team consists of a doctor, two physician assistants, seven registered nurses, one licensed practice nurse and three paramedics. They are scheduled to be in Foley for two weeks, but the state will request an extension, possibly with replacement personnel.
Harris said hospitals are overloaded throughout the state but that its worst from Mobile to Dothan.
The Al. Health Dept. has asked for more than 200 positions statewide.
