Will Kimbrough has 4 cuts on Buffett’s new album
Of course, parrothead nation is glad Jimmy Buffett has released a new album, his first since 2013’s “Songs from St. Somewhere,” if only because Jimmy has made himself available to media outlets on his pre-release press junket. We learned about Jimmy’s take on redneck margarita’s from this quote in USA Today.
“Margaritas have gotten very sweet. I like real lime juice; I don’t like a lot of sugar. The other day I was watching ‘Queer Eye’ and they were doing a makeover, and the guy had what he called a Redneck Margarita, which was just bad tequila and Mountain Dew. And I went, ‘That’s way too far, I’d never do that.’ But good tequila and a lime, yes.’’
Buffett, Gulf Coast born and raised (his sister Lulu owns a great restaurant in Gulf Shores) tapped fellow Mobilian Will Kimbrough for four co-writes among the 14 new songs on “Life on the Flip Side.” Kinbrough also played on the the entire album.
Buffett first tapped into Kimbrough’s talents through mutual friend Todd Snidr for the album, License to Chill. That album included Kimbrough’s “Piece of Work.” Kimbrough played guitar in Buffett’s band during the Country Music Association’s awards ceremony that year and again before 35,000 people during the 2010 Buffett concert at Gulf Shores Public Beach sponsored by BP Oil.
