Incorporated in 1990 as the Wolf Bay Foundation to support the Weeks Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve in its efforts to conserve the pristine coastal areas of South Alabama, SALT plans multiple property burns to restore long leaf pine ecosystems and pitcher plant bogs back to a more productive, native ecology this year. A lot of prep work goes into conducting prescribed burns, so the SALT staff could definitely use help.
SALT protects land and promotes environmental education in coastal Alabama so current and future residents can enjoy clean water and the marine life, wildlife, and outdoor recreation that define South Alabama. With the support of more than 550 members, generous donors and event sponsors, it has protected more than 9,500 acres of coastline in Baldwin and Mobile counties through a combination of conservation easements, land donations, and purchases. This protected land can never be sold to developers.
