Honesty pays off for 8-year-old Declan Singh

Declan Singh, an 8-year-old from Orange Beach did what came naturally when he found four one hundred dollar bills inside the local Publix supermarket around six months ago. “Someone may need this. I’m sure they are looking for it,’’ he told his mom (Heather Webb-Singh). So, Declan gave the $400 to the Publix management team, who contacted the Orange Beach Police Dept. and filed a report. Police told Declan if nobody claims the moneyh after six momnths, it is his to keep. “Every trip we’ve made to Orange Beach since then we’ve made stops back to the OB Police Dept. to see if anyone’s claimed it,’’ said Webb-Singh. “They know us well now.’’ On March 24, the OBPD told Declan the money is his to claim. “We have one happy boy,’’ Webb-Singh said. “Honest does pay off – literally. Declan is going to deposit some into his savings account and has chosen to donate some to his school’s Swift Fund in Sandy Spring, GA. We are so proud of him and a big shout-out to OBPD. Thanks for all you do for our community.’’
