Literacy Council Alphabet Jubilee Aug. 27 at Foley Civic Center

The South Baldwin Literacy Council will hold its annual Alphabet Jubilee fundraiser on Saturday, August 27 at the Foley Civic Center from 5-9 p.m. The theme will follow the Alphabet Jubilee theme with A Bear Called Paddington.
The Alphabet Jubilee is the only fundraiser SBLC holds each year. Since SBLC is a non-profit organization, this fundraiser is vital in order to offer free literacy services to adults and youth in the community.
The event will include wine and beer, a delicious catered dinner by Kitty’s Kafe, music by Elvis Remembered and the Promised Land Band for entertainment and dancing, and silent and live auctions. Tickets are $50. For more information or to purchase tickets, call 943-7323.
Pictured: Although he has made numerous appearances as an Elvis tribute artist, Shane Tucker also has a day job as an assistant principal at Foley High School. “This is the reason that my performances with the the Foley High School Orchestra have been so enjoyable for me,’’ he said on his website. “I am also proud to have been a classroom teacher, coached football and baseball for several years, and I am proud to be the voice of the Mighty Band From Lion Land during their half time show. I love being a Foley Lion.’’
A member of the Foley First Baptist Church, Tucker has been a part of the Foley High School family since 1995. His career as an ETA began nondescriptly at a staff Christmas party and has evolved to include concerts and competitions. In addition to his work with the Promised Land Band, he performs with music tracks and with the L.A. Fever Band.
“While country and southern rock are favored in my secular music choices, Elvis is obviously my all time favorite because of his captivating style and his powerful and unmatched vocal talent,’’ he said. “Performing as an ETA is my way of keeping Elvis’ music and memory alive for those who remember him and introducing him to those who discovered him after his untimely death.’’
