Gulf Shores gets $5 million grant for airport terminal

Jack Edwards Airport, which now officially Gulf Shores International Airport at Jack Edwards Field, will receive $5 million in federal transportation funds for the construction of a new commercial terminal, according to a White House press release from Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.
The Gulf Shores grant is part of $970 million that will go to 144 airports for terminal upgrades ranging from building new terminals and concourses to making bathrooms bigger.
The FAA received more than 600 applications for grants asking for a total of $14 billion. Another Alabama airport, Huntsville International, will receive $7 million for terminal and concourse renovations.
Across the nation, the funds would also help improve baggage systems and security screening areas, expand public transit options, build solar energy infrastructure and increase accessibility.
