“Merchant of Venice” opens May 12 at SBCT

South Baldwin Community Theater’s presentation of “The Merchant of Venice – In 1940’s New York” continues May 19 & 20 at 7 p.m. and May 21 at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are available at sbct.biz ($15 for students and $18 for adults).
Antonio, an antisemitic merchant, takes a loan from the Jew Shylock to help his friend to court Portia. Antonio can’t repay the loan, and without mercy, Shylock demands a pound of his flesh. The heiress Portia, now the wife of Antonio’s friend, dresses as a lawyer and saves Antonio. Frank Wittman directs.
