Dive For Debris April 16 at Gulf State Park Pier

As anglers take their places to reel in the biggest catches at the popular Gulf State Park Pier, they often get their fishing line, weights, and other debris tangled among the pilings. Sometimes, cups, bait containers, and the occasional cell phone may drop into the water. It is inevitable that it will happen. But thanks to an event organized by local divers, somethng can be done to clean up the mess.
Partnering with Down Under Dive Shop and Red Flag Surf & Dive, Gulf State Park will host its 3rd Dive for Debris Underwater Cleanup on Sunday, April 16 from 8 a.m. – noon. In the event of bad weather, the dive will be postponed until April 30.
To Register or for more info, email gulfevents.statepark@ dcnr.alabama.gov. With registration, participants will receive a free parking pass and one free tank of air from Down Under Dive Shop.
Those who dive/snorkel will get a free hotdog, chips & fountain drink, provided by the pier. Door prizes will also be part of the post event festivities for registered participants.
The pier will be open for sightseers during the clean-up, but fishing will not e allowed from 8 a.m. until noon.
