Free Fishing Academy for students 5th-8th grades April 4

Returning from last year, the City of Orange Beach Expect Excellence program is partnering with the Mobile Big Game Fishing Club to offer a free Fishing Academy to students in 5th – 8th grades from 3:30 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 4. The goal is to foster, promote, and increase knowledge of fishing, boating and conservation for future generations.
This is a one-day, after-school event that will introduce basic knowledge, skills and angling practices for recreational fishing, through a series of stations during a two-hour period, taught by local Charter and Private boat captains, fishing experts, CCA and AL Marine Resource officers and is created in partnership by Mobile Big Game Fishing Club and the City of Orange Beach. All classes will be on land and no actual fishing is scheduled/part of this one day event.
Lessons will include the following: Knot Tying; Local fish identification; Conservation and stewardship; Bait – what to use; Tackle and casting; Cast net throwing; Basics of a boat.
