300 volunteers needed for PBUMC’s Feb. 9 Night to Shine Prom for people with special needs
Perdido Bay United Methodist Church is putting a call out for volunteers for its Tim Tebow Foundation Night To Shine Prom Friday, February 9, 2018. Night to Shine is an unforgettable prom night experience, centered on God’s love, for people with special needs, ages 14 and older.
The worldwide movement is set to take place in all 50 states and 15 countries around the world. This is PBUMC’s third time as one of more than 450 churches around the world that will host this amazing event.
This event requires at least 300 volunteers, and each of them must be trained,’’ said coordinator Kristi McClellan. “It is overwhelming to see so many people gathered in one location, all giving of themselves, to help with this event at the training.’’
The volunteer training session will be held Jan. 23 from 6-7:30 p.m. at the PBUMC Community Center, located at 13660 Innerarity Pt Rd. in Pensacola. The Attire Try On Night is January 25 from 4-7 p.m.
“A unique aspect of PBUMC hosting this event is that we are able to utilize donations from our thrift store, the Redemption Store, to provide gowns, shoes, accessories, and suits to our guests,’’ said McClellan. “On January 25, we convert our banquet room to a showroom and let our guests come and pick out complimentary attire for the event. We have seamstresses on hand to provide any alterations needed. It is magical and there are many Cinderella-moments that take place!’’

Every guest of Night to Shine receives the royal treatment, including hair and makeup stations, shoe shining areas, limousine rides, corsages and boutonnieres.
Guests enter the building on a red carpet complete with a warm welcome from a friendly crowd and paparazzi. Once inside, guests enjoy a catered dinner, prom favors for each honored guest, all leading up to the moment when each guest is crowned king or queen of the prom.
“Best of all, each honored guest is crowned a king or queen of the prom,’’ said Erik Dellenback, executive director of the Tim Tebow Foundation. “We continue to be amazed by how God has grown this event into a worldwide movement, celebrating people with special needs.”
As sponsor of Night to Shine, the Tim Tebow Foundation has committed over $3.5 million in financial support and manpower to hundreds of churches needing assistance in hosting the event.
When Night to Shine launched in 2015, 44 host churches and 15,000 volunteers worked together to honor more than 7,000 kings and queens of the prom. This past February, 375 host churches and 150,000 volunteers came together to celebrate 75,000 honored guests with special needs. Churches are signing up every day for Night to Shine 2018 and the event is expected to take place in over 500 locations in all 50 states and on 6 continents this coming February.
The Tim Tebow Foundation exists to bring Faith, Hope and Love to those needing a brighter day in their darkest hour of need. That mission is being fulfilled every day through the foundation’s seven areas of outreach, including W15H, Timmy’s Playrooms, Orphan Care, Adoption Aid, the Tebow CURE Hospital, Team Tebow and Night to Shine.
