Friends of Southwest Library quarterly meeting Oct. 10

By Cathy Ingram
The Friends of the Southwest Branch Library will have its last quarterly member meeting for fiscal year 2016 on Monday, October 10 at 6 p.m. at the Southwest Branch Library, 12248 Gulf Beach Hwy. in Pensacola (Info: 850-453-7780). The featured guest will be Pensacola Naval Air Museum volunteer Phil Duryea, who will share his collection of Blue Angels artifacts and his many stories about the team. Also, members of the Kiwanis of Big Lagoon will be there to present a big surprise to the Southwest Branch Library.
Friends of the Southwest Branch Library Foundation, Inc. is a non-profit 501c(3) organization that supports the Southwest Branch of the West Florida Public Library through volunteerism and fundraising. You can join for as little as $10 a year.
The week of October 17th is National Friends of the Library Week, when you can come by the library and meet some Friends, join, and get a free gift. Friends raise funds for the library through daily book sales. The group budgets $20,000 each year toward the library’s children’s programs, book collection and projects and programs. Become a Friend and be proud to know that you are a part of that investment.
We still are exhibiting the student art of Escambia County After School Art Class of 2016 in the lobby, and the art of Alan Woolford inside the library.
Guitar Extraordinaire Jane Rosenbohm returns with a guitar performance of varying styles on Saturday, November 12 at 1 p.m. Jane will speak about the history of the instrument, and she will donate a beautiful Tyler Spruce Acoustic Guitar for The Friends to raffle to a lucky attendee of the event! Come out and support your library! Pictured: Jane Rosenbohm Guitar Extraordinaire will play guitar and talk about the instrument as well as donate an acoustic guitar to be given away on November 12.
