Gulf Shores ban on beach drinking in effect through April 17
Orange Beach Police issue zero tolerance warning in anticipation of spring break
The City of Gulf Shores ban on alcohol consumption on all public beaches goes into effect March 1 and continues through April 17, the end of the college spring break season.
Although alcohol consumption (no glass containers) is still legal in Orange Beach in front of homes, hotels and condos, alcohol is banned on that city’s state beaches.
Police departments from Gulf Shores and Orange Beach published notices on its facebook pages stating that the cities will have a zero tolerance policy for lawbreakers.
The Orange Beach notice specifically mentions digging large holes in the sand, sleeping in cars, jumping from balconies and loud music on the beach and unreasonable noise and vibration as misbehaviors that will be prosecuted.
“If you are looking for a party town, Orange Beach is not it,’’ the letter states. “Underage drinking, illegal drug use, disorderly conduct or any other breach of the peace will not be tolerated and you wil go to jail. There will be no warnings.’’
Gulf Shores Police Chief Ed Delmore’s facebook letter also states that breaking city ordinances will result in arrests. “Consequences for violating a municipal ordinance or state stature are likely to result in physical arrest or the issuance of a citation requiring a court appearance.
“We have said it before but just so we are clear: If your top priorities when visiting the beach are being drunk and disorderly, breaking what you consider to be small rules like underage drinking, littering & leaving glass on the beach, urinating in public, using drugs or engaging in violent or indecent behaviors, Gulf Shores is definitely not the place for you,” the G.S. police chief added.
