Murray Reed (pictured) represented the Gulf Shores Swim Team at February’s Southeastern Swimming Short Course Championships held at Auburn University. There were 43 teams entered from Alabama, Tennessee and the Florida Panhandle.
Murray, age 9, qualified for this meet by virtue of his results in previous meets during this short course season. At the championship meet Murray swam in six events. He set new team records for the 9-10 year old boys in four events. He lowered the times in the 50, 100 and 200 Freestyle races. He also set a new record for the 50 Breaststroke. Reed scored points in the meet in the 50 and 100 freestyle by finishing in 8th place in those races.
“I am so very proud of the way Murray represented himself and GSST at his first every Southeastern Championship Meet. He walked in with confidence and came out with 6 best times,” said Coach Brook Hopkins.
The year round swim team practices at the Bodenhamer Center on a daily basis.
May 1 marks the beginning of the summer recreation league for the team. The team participates in the Gulf Coast Area Aquatics League.
