Santa Claus himself made an appearance at The Perdido Key Sports Bar during a recent fundraiser for Save Underdogs Rescue, a Northwest Florida based non-profit that provides medical care for rescues and fostered dogs until they find their forever home. The all volunteer charity operates on personal funds and donations.
“I got involved because the group needs about $15,000 to pay for veterinarian bills,’’ said Sports Bar owner Judy Davis. “The dogs need a lot of attention by the time they get to this group. There is a desperate need for funds.’’
Over 4,500 dogs have been saved by the charity since 2004. “There are no administration fees. It’s run by a great bunch of ladies, and we are jumping on the bandwagon here in Perdido Key,’’ Davis said.
Local businesses are also sponsoring Save Underdogs Charlie Brown trees, which are angel trees for dogs. “We have about 30 trees out in our area and all the way to Fort Walton Beach,’’ Davis said.
