Gary Hellmich named SBCC Person of Year

Gary Hellmich, owner of Hellmich Electric in Foley, was awarded the 2016 Walton M. Vines Free Enterprise Person of the year Award by the South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce. The award honors a person that represents the spirit of free enterprise and is in good moral standing. The award was presented by the 2015 winner Boyd Little of Oak Hollow Farm.
Hellmich (pictured) started Hellmich Electric in 1986 as the lone employee; today the company employs 14 people and serves both residential and commercial customers all over Baldwin County.
Hellmich, a Foley native, graduated from Foley High School in 1977. He then attended Southwest State Technical School and received his Master’s Electrical License in 1995.
Hellmich serves on the advisory boards for Fortis College, Navy Cove Condo & United Bank. He has served as Chairman for Gulf Coast Hot Air Balloon Festival, the YMCA’s Strong Kids Campaign in both 2008 and 2009.
Hellmich is a member of St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Foley and has been president of the church men’s club for two years.
The Free Enterprise Person of the Year is the South Baldwin Chamber’s most prestigious award with a long history among the Chamber and business leaders in the area. The Luncheon brings almost 150 members together to celebrate the coveted award and free enterprise.
