ACF reports 66 turtle nests & highlights John Valentine

As of Sep. 1, the Alabama Coastal Foundation’s Share the Beach program volunteers had documented a season total of 66 turtle nests. Eight nests had successfully hatched by Sept. 1 and an estimated 725 hatchling sea turtles entered the Gulf of Mexico to begin their lives. Volunteers monitor nests daily for signs of hatching and ensure hatchlings make it safely to the water.
The Sept. issue of ACF’s Ospry Outlook newsletter also highlighted Advisory Council member John Valentine (pictured). As executive director at Dauphin Island Sea Lab Valentine wrote or co-authored more than 95 grant proposals for research. In addition, he was instrumental in having The Estuarium designated Alabama’s State Aquarium.
The ACF has many levels of sponsorship, including adopt-a-nest, educational signs and license plate reservations. All proceeds can be directly designated to support Share the Beach to protect endangered sea turtles along the Alabama Gulf Coast.
