Explore Native American mounds from Blakely State Park on Dec. 5

On Saturday, December 5, Historic Blakeley State Park offers two excursions to the famous Bottle Creek Mound complex in the heart of the Mobile-Tensaw Delta.
The incredible Bottle Creek site is only accessible by boat and features 18 earthen mounds built centuries ago by Native Americans. The site is the Gulf Coast’s largest Native American mound center, and one of the largested in the southeast. The tallest mound rises some 45 feet above the Delta marsh, ranking it among the largest of its type in the Southeast.
Cruises depart at 8:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. north of the park, from Lower Bryant’s Landing, located just off of Alabama State Hwy. 225 about two miles north of I-65 in the Stockton area.
Guests should come prepared for a hike of about twenty minutes and bring along water and snacks if desired. Each trip, including boat ride and hike to the mound complex, is about three hours. The boat will operate at half capacity during the ongoing public health crisis, and all guests are requested to wear masks. Tickets for the entire adventure are $39 for adults and $19 for children 6-12. They may be purchased online at blakeleypark.com. The Delta Explorer is Coast Guard-licensed, covered, passenger boat with bench seating and restroom.
