GCAC Donates $10K To Help GSHS Athletic Teams
The Gulf Coast Athletic Club donated $10,000 to the Gulf Shores High School Athletic Department which will be used to purchase new helmets for the football team. GSHS football coach Mark Hud said the team was excited about now having the ability to add new teal helmets to the Dolphin uniform options. “Coach Hud gave us a tour and is continuously updating the fieldhouse,’’ said GCAC President George Autrey. “The facility looks like a Division 1 university field house and locker room.” The Dolphins advanced to the state 5A quarterfinals this year before losing a heartbreaker to district rival Faith Academy, a team they beat 22-12 during the regular season. The Dolphins entered the playoffs for the first time since 2013 after a 9-1 regular season under second year coach Hudspeth. The Dolphins beat Carroll 42-0 in their first ever home play-off game and then went on the road to beat Central-Clay County 26-21. The Dolphins only regular season loss was 28-35 to UMS, another Region 1 rival and the top ranked team in the state at the time. Hudspeth led the Dolphins to a 6-4 record in 2021.
