Optimist Mullet Toss Sept. 5 at Lillian Community Club

The Optimist Club of Perdido Bay Mullet Festival will be held on Labor Day, Sept. 5 at the Lillian Community Club.
“This is the largest fundraiser of the year for the Optimist Club of Perdido Bay and it funds the programs offered by the Club over the course of the year,” said event chair, Dodd Bouchillon. “It drives just how much our Optimist Club can do in the community. Our mission is improving the lives of young people and we take it seriously.”
Registration for The Run for the Mullet 5K Run & Walk opens at 6 a.m. through 7:15 a.m. near the front entrance to the Lillian Community Club. The 5K race starts at 7:30 a.m. while the 1 Mile Mullet Festival Fun Run & Walk starts at 8:30 a.m. Pre-event registration is open now for $25 each at runsignup.com or by following the link at optimistclubpb.org. American Legion Post 48 will conduct the Presentation of the Flag at 7:15 a.m. Breakfast is served from 7 to 9 a.m. and features a menu of scrambled eggs, sausage, pancakes, grits, biscuits & gravy, fruit and drinks. Lunch will be available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will feature fish or ham, hushpuppies, beans, potato salad, desert and ice tea. Breakfast will cost $5 per person with lunch costing $12. The Mullet Toss is scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon. The event record is 178 feet and is held by Lewis Pope. Age group awards are provided to encourage young and old to participate. The children’s bouncy house is open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The De’Ja Vu market and Silent Auction open at 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This part of the Mullet Festival has always been a crowd favorite. This year’s event entertainment will be offered by Big Jake & the Tag-A-Longs from11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The first raffle number drawn is for $50, the second for $100 and the third number drawn for $500.
