Seed & Plant Swap Jan. 28 at the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo

Seed & Plant Swap Jan. 28 at the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo

In celebration of National Seed Swap Day on January 28, the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo is holding a community seed and plant swap day from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. inside the zoo at the Munsell Sustainable Garden area. Access to the event is included with general admission to the zoo or free with a zoo membership.
All guests bringing a donation of wildflower seeds will receive a 10% discount off admission. These seeds will be used to re-seed banks around the ponds throughout the zoo. Community members are asked to bring seeds, plants, and cuttings to swap with others in attendance. Additional activities will include live gardening demonstrations from local master gardener groups, Munsell Sustainable Garden tours, local garden vendor tables and seed planting activities for children.
“This event supports the goal and reason why we built the Munsell Sustainable Garden, to educate Zoo guests about gardening, growing your own food, and sustainability,” said the zoo’s executive directdor, Joel Hamilton. “We look forward to continuing it annually.”
National Seed Swap Day is observed on the last Saturday in January and serves as a reminder to gardeners that spring is on its way. It is also an ideal time for gardeners to gather and swap seeds in preparation for starting seeds indoors. More info: alabamagulfcoastzoo.org.
